Latest Book: Pride and the Stranger
Where did the inspiration for the book come from?
I've been writing erotica for years but only recently wanted to do something 'real' with them, and share them. I've always wanted to write a book and didn't particularly know where to start. The MC, Harriet, was in my head for a long time, and it was only after she told me she was Pride that the ball started rolling, lol.
Why was the story so important to you?
I love my characters. The whole theme of the books is about being proud of who you are (sex aside, haha) and I'm incredibly proud of how far I've come in a year and a half. I've written a full-length trilogy, about 70k of a new #WIP, plus I have character illustrations, merchandise, and a whole load of bonus scenes which I'm hoping to release as an anthology. (I'm taking any suggestions for names that that, just fyi, haha.)
Tell us about the characters
My characters are the Seven Deadly Sins. The main character of the whole trilogy is Harry, aka Pride. She oversees the Cardinal, where the Sins live and work in Edinburgh, and she's the boss-lady in charge. She's a wickedly charming and deliciously confident soft butch ... with biceps!
As a writer...
What is the best feedback you have ever had from a reader?
I've had such amazing feedback, it's a little hard to pinpoint a favourite. Um... one of my first ever reviews said I was "like a unicorn at a football match" because I was "one of a kind in my genre", lol. That was pretty special. And I wrote a bonus scene recently for a trans woman, and she said that she was crying with happiness at how lovely it was, so that made my heart happy :)
How do you feel about readers reaching out to you? What is the best way they can do that?
I love it! I'm mostly on Twitter, but people can reach out via Instagram and FB too :) Happy to talk to anyone as long as they don't make it awkward haha (keep it clean, I'm happily married, lol!)
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading an ARC of The Simple Answer by Lily Seabrook which is lovely, and I've just finished the Sea and Stars trilogy by SD Simper and that was really special. I loved it, and can't wait to read more by the author. They are dark and delicious and different from most lesfic books I've read so far.
What is your favourite word?
Fuck. (Also, flump and whirligig, lol!!!!)
What was the first book that made you cry?
The only one I can really remember crying to was Warhorse I think. Beautiful story, and even better in the theatre. I was VERY close to tears with A Hero's Journey though, book 3 in the When Women Were Warriors Trilogy by Catherine M Wilson which is magical. I was head over heels for Maara for a long time after reading that one, lol.
As a person...
What did you want to be before you grew up?
It was a toss up between a marine biologist, a conservationist, or a firefighter. But then it moved onto running a nightclub, which I did, lol. I have an official qualification in international bartending. I'm no longer in the hospitality industry so now I'm going with the flow and seeing where the world takes me.
What superhero power would you want to possess?
Instant teleportation would be amazing! Like, imagine finishing work one minute and lying on a beach in the Bahamas with an ice cold beer the next?? Ahhh, the dream.
What would be your weapon of choice?
Bow and arrow. I would love to do some professional archery; it's been on my bucket list forever but never tried it. Well, the closest I've gotten was one of the games on my brothers virtual reality, lol.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Good enough is good enough. Probably quite common among creatives, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and would get really stressed if something wasn't perfect. But good enough really is ... good enough. So as long as I'm happy I've done a ''good enough" job, then I'm fine.
What is your favourite box set?
I've got a set of three tupperwares boxes that just fit perfectly in ... oh, no wait, hahaha! I'm kidding ... erm ... I'm not a huge TV fan, and the only box sets I really own are Game of Thrones. Huge GoT fan!
